Louisiana State Museum is one of the most prominent heritage museums in New Orleans. It houses five properties in the French Quarter, inclusive of -The Cabildo, the Presbytere and the 1850 House, Madame John's Legacy at and the old U.S. Mint building.The Presbytere is now home to a permanent exhibit about Mardi Gras, called "Carnival Time in Louisiana." The 1850 House, also known as the Lower Pontalba, is furnished with period pieces. Guided tours are available. The Mint has become a jazz museum, complete with live performances, but also has a number of exhibits about the building itself. The most popular landmark is the above-ground tombs in the cemeteries of New Orleans are often referred to as "Cities of the dead." Enter their gates and you will be greeted by decorative, rusty ironwork, and blinded by the sun bleached tombs. Crosses and statues on tomb tops cast contrasting shadows adding a sense of mystery.
Votive candles line tombs on holidays to remind you the Dead have living relatives that still care. The walls of these cemeteries are made up of economical vaults that are stacked on top of one another. The rich and wealthier families could afford the larger ornate tombs with crypts. Many family tombs look like miniature houses complete with iron fences. Due to the systematic arrangement of the tombs the New Orleans burial plots quickly became known as "Cites of the Dead". ..Be sure to go there in groups!!!

1850 House is a remarkable landmark in New Orleans. It is a famous French-style townhouse. It has these splendid Pontalba Buildings, that surround Jackson Square on St. Ann and St. Peter Streets. These buildings were erected in 1850 by Spanish descendant Baroness Micaela Almonester de Pontalba. She was the daughter of colonial landowner Don Andres Almonester y Roxas. Also known as row-houses, these buildings were built to be both elegant residences and retail establishments.
1850 House is done up with tasteful interiors that depict middle class family life during the most prosperous period in New Orleans' history. The House is furnished with domestic goods, decorative arts and art of the period.

The Saint Louis Cathedral is a splendid landmark in New Orleans. It has a serene atmosphere. This beautiful French-style church dates since 1789. St. Louis Cathedral is the official seat for the Archdiocese of New Orleans. The Church is built of wood and stucco and has three spires. The clock on the cathedral's middle spire serves French Quarter residents and visitors as the "official" account of the earth's rotation. 10 large and marvelous stained-glass windows in the church's sanctuary visually describe the life and death of Louis IX, King of France. He was later canonized as a saint of the Catholic Church. Highlight of the Cathedral's existence was the visitation of Pope John Paul II in September l987, when crowds overflowed the huge church and the surrounding area. The Cathedral is also the used as a grand wedding venue by most couples who plan to marry.

Cablido is a famous Historic Landmark. There's a fascinating history behind its existence. In 1803, transfer papers for the Louisiana Purchase- from the French empire to the U.S. were signed here. The Cabildo was constructed in 1795-99 as the seat of the Spanish municipal government in New Orleans. It was the residence of the Spanish colonial government. It now, exhibits a variety of exhibits that include the Louisiana artifacts as well as the death mask of Napoleon.
